The next generation of the Hyundai Creta has been spotted testing on Indian roads for the first time. Covered in heavy camouflage, the test mule confirms that Hyundai is working on the third-generation Creta, which is expected to arrive in the Indian market around 2027. The images suggest that this will not be a minor update, but a completely new model with noticeable changes in design, size and overall stance.

From what can be seen during testing, the upcoming Creta will look very different from the current version sold in India.

Hyundai Creta Boxier and More Upright Design

One of the biggest changes in the new Creta is its overall shape. Unlike the current model, which has softer and more rounded lines, the test vehicle shows a boxier and more upright design. The front profile looks straight and tall, and the windscreen also appears more vertical, giving the SUV a stronger and more traditional road presence.

Although the front grille and headlamp details are hidden under camouflage, the body shape clearly hints at a tougher and more solid design direction compared to the existing Creta.

Side Profile Indicates Larger Dimensions

Seen from the side, the next-generation Creta appears larger than the current model. The front and rear overhangs look shorter, which usually indicates a longer wheelbase. This could translate into better interior space, especially for rear-seat passengers.

The test mule is running on 18-inch alloy wheels, giving it a wide and planted stance. Interestingly, the design of the rear alloy wheels looks similar to the 17-inch wheels seen on the new Kia Seltos. The window line is more squared-off, further adding to the SUV’s bold and muscular appearance.

Rear Design Still Under Wraps

The rear section remains mostly hidden, but a few elements are still noticeable. A large roof spoiler can be seen, and the roofline appears to slope slightly towards the rear. This could add a sporty touch to the new Creta. The shape of the tail-lamps is not visible yet, but they are expected to be different from the current model.

New Platform for the Next-Gen Creta

As per reports, the third-generation Creta will move to the K3 platform, which is already used on the new Kia Seltos. This platform allows for a stronger body structure and better proportions, making it easier to increase the vehicle’s size while improving overall balance.

The switch to this platform also suggests improvements in safety and cabin space compared to the current Creta.

Engine Options Likely to Remain Familiar

Under the hood, Hyundai is expected to continue with its existing engine lineup. The next-gen Creta is likely to offer the 1.5-litre petrol engine, which is known for smooth daily driving. The 1.5-litre diesel engine is also expected to remain on sale, as diesel continues to have strong demand in this segment.

For buyers looking for more power, the 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine is also likely to be carried forward in the new model.

Gearbox Choices to Stay the Same

Transmission options are expected to remain familiar as well. A 6-speed manual gearbox is likely to be standard across engine options. Petrol variants may continue with an automatic option, while the diesel could retain a 6-speed automatic. The turbo-petrol version is expected to come with a 7-speed dual-clutch gearbox.

This setup is already well-known to Indian buyers and is expected to continue without major changes.

Hybrid Version Could Be on the Cards

With the move to the K3 platform, there is also speculation about a hybrid version of the Creta. Reports suggest that Hyundai may be working on a hybrid setup based on the 1.5-litre petrol engine. If introduced, this could help improve fuel efficiency, which is becoming increasingly important for buyers.

However, there has been no official confirmation from the company so far.

Launch Timeline and What to Expect

While the launch is still some time away, the fact that the new Creta has already entered road testing shows that development is progressing steadily. The visible changes in size, design and platform indicate that the upcoming model will be a significant step forward from the current Creta.
