Skoda Kylaq CNG Option: Skoda is evaluating a CNG option for the Kylaq as part of its India strategy to offer more fuel-efficient choices. Senior company officials have confirmed that CNG is being considered, with both factory-fitted and dealer-level solutions under review.

The Kylaq has played a major role in boosting Skoda India’s sales in 2025, prompting the brand to explore new ways to expand its appeal. Reports also suggest that Skoda could extend CNG options to the Kushaq and Slavia if customer demand supports the move. Currently powered by a 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine, the Kylaq may gain a CNG variant focused on lower running costs and everyday usability.

Skoda Kylaq CNG Under Evaluation in India

Skoda Auto is actively studying the possibility of introducing a CNG version of the Skoda Kylaq for the Indian market. The compact SUV has quickly become a key product for the brand, and adding a CNG option could further strengthen its position among buyers who are focused on fuel efficiency and lower running costs. Media reports suggest that internal feasibility checks are ongoing, although no official launch timeline has been confirmed so far.

Skoda Confirms CNG as a Viable Fuel Option

The idea of a CNG-powered Kylaq gained attention after comments from Martin Jahn, Board Member for Sales and Marketing at Skoda Auto. During a recent interaction, he stated that the company is exploring multiple alternatives for India and that CNG is one of the options being considered. This statement clearly indicates that Skoda is open to adapting its product strategy based on local market needs.

Kylaq’s Role in Skoda India’s Sales Growth

The Kylaq has played a major role in boosting Skoda India’s performance. In 2025, the brand’s sales volumes reportedly doubled, with the Kylaq contributing more than half of total sales. Such strong demand has encouraged Skoda to look at ways to expand the model’s reach, and a CNG variant could help attract buyers who are currently choosing rival brands offering alternative fuel options.

Factory-Fitted and Dealer-Level CNG Plans

According to reports, Skoda is evaluating two possible approaches for introducing CNG technology. One option is a factory-fitted CNG system that would be fully developed, tested, and approved by the manufacturer. The second option involves dealer-level CNG kits, which could allow quicker market entry while keeping costs under control. Both routes are being assessed for safety standards, warranty coverage, and long-term reliability.

Kushaq and Slavia CNG Possibility

The CNG discussion may not stop with the Kylaq alone. Reports suggest that Skoda could also consider CNG variants for the Skoda Kushaq and the Skoda Slavia if customer demand is strong enough. Since these models share the same MQB-A0-IN platform, a common CNG solution could make technical and commercial sense for the company.

Current Engine Details and What to Expect from CNG

At present, the Skoda Kylaq is powered by a 1.0-litre, three-cylinder turbo-petrol engine producing 113 BHP and 178 Nm of torque. This engine is offered with a 6-speed manual gearbox as well as a 6-speed automatic transmission. A CNG version is expected to focus on mileage and everyday usability, even if it results in slightly lower power figures compared to the petrol-only model.

Impact of a Kylaq CNG on Compact SUV Segment

If introduced, the Kylaq CNG could make Skoda more competitive in the compact SUV segment, where fuel efficiency plays a big role in buying decisions. With rising petrol prices and improving CNG infrastructure across Indian cities, a CNG-powered Kylaq could appeal to private buyers and fleet operators alike. While an official announcement is still awaited, the ongoing evaluation clearly shows that Skoda is serious about expanding its presence in the value-focused end of the market.
