Maruti Suzuki has started November with a major sales milestone. The carmaker reported its highest-ever monthly sales in October 2026, moving 276,120 vehicles across domestic sales, supplies to other manufacturers and exports. The result is notable not only because of the headline total, but also because domestic volumes and overseas shipments both reached new highs. The figures offer a useful snapshot of demand during the festive period, although they should be read as company sales and dispatch numbers rather than a count of vehicles registered by customers.

The October performance also shows how the mix of vehicles sold by India’s largest carmaker is changing. Utility vehicles continued to gain ground, while small, compact and mid-size passenger cars remained a major part of the business. Exports added another strong layer to the result, rising faster than domestic sales. Here is what the latest numbers tell us and what they do not reveal about individual model demand.

Maruti Suzuki October Sales

According to Maruti Suzuki’s official monthly sales statement, total sales stood at 276,120 units in October 2026. This was the company’s best monthly performance to date. Domestic sales were reported at 216,789 units, also an all-time high. The company separately supplied 9,459 vehicles to other original equipment manufacturers and exported 49,872 units. These three components together account for the reported total.

For context, October 2025 total sales were 220,894 units. The latest figure therefore represents growth of about 25 per cent year on year. Domestic sales increased from 180,675 units to 216,789 units, a rise of around 20 per cent. Exports climbed from 31,304 units to 49,872 units, which is a much faster increase of approximately 59.3 per cent. Sales to other OEMs also moved up, from 8,915 units to 9,459 units.

Passenger cars and utility vehicles both contributed

The domestic passenger vehicle business accounted for 212,384 units in October, compared with 176,318 units in the same month last year. Within this total, mini, compact and mid-size cars recorded 100,877 units, up from 85,210 units. Utility vehicle sales reached 97,787 units, compared with 77,571 units a year earlier. That represents growth of about 26 per cent for the utility vehicle category.

The gap between these two broad groups is now relatively narrow. Mini, compact and mid-size cars still held a small lead in the reported October tally, but utility vehicles were close behind. This is an important indicator of the current market mix: customers continue to buy practical hatchbacks and sedans, while SUVs and other utility vehicles are taking a larger share of the company’s passenger vehicle volumes. The numbers do not, however, identify how much each individual model contributed.

Van sales stood at 13,720 units, compared with 13,537 units in October 2025. Light commercial vehicle sales, led by the Super Carry, were 4,405 units against 4,357 units a year earlier. These categories are smaller than passenger cars and utility vehicles, but they remain relevant to Maruti Suzuki’s wider domestic business.

Exports provide an additional growth engine

Exports of 49,872 units were one of the strongest parts of the October result. A year earlier, the company had shipped 31,304 units overseas. The increase suggests that overseas demand and dispatch schedules made a meaningful contribution to the record total. Export volumes should be considered separately from domestic retail demand because vehicles may be shipped to international markets before they are registered or delivered to their final buyers.

Maruti Suzuki has been using its Indian manufacturing operations to serve both domestic customers and overseas markets. A strong export month can improve factory utilisation and broaden the company’s sales base, but it does not automatically mean that waiting periods for popular models in India will fall. Dealer stock, variant mix, production planning and local demand all influence how quickly a customer receives a particular vehicle.

What the October numbers mean for Indian car buyers

For buyers, the most useful takeaway is that demand remained strong across more than one vehicle category. The passenger car group delivered a healthy increase, while utility vehicles grew at a faster pace. That gives Maruti Suzuki a broad base rather than relying on one body style alone. The export increase also means the company’s record was not built only on domestic demand.

It is important to distinguish wholesale sales from retail registrations. Monthly manufacturer announcements generally count vehicles dispatched or sold through the company’s reporting channels. Government registration data, such as figures available through the Vahan portal, tracks vehicles registered at transport offices. The two measures can differ because of dispatch timing, dealer inventory and registration delays. A record in company sales is therefore not necessarily the same as a record in registrations during the same calendar month.

October’s figures also do not provide a model-wise ranking in the headline statement. While the segment breakdown shows that utility vehicles and passenger cars both performed well, it would be inaccurate to claim that a specific model led the month without a separate verified model-wise sales disclosure. Buyers comparing the Swift, Baleno, Dzire, Brezza, Fronx or Grand Vitara should continue to check the latest variant availability and waiting period with their local dealer.

What to watch in the coming months

The next few monthly updates will help show whether October’s performance was mainly a festive-season peak or part of a sustained rise. Export volumes, the balance between passenger cars and utility vehicles, and the company’s ability to meet demand across variants will be important indicators. The industry will also be watching how the market performs after the main festive buying period, when monthly dispatch patterns can change.

For now, the confirmed headline is clear: Maruti Suzuki delivered its strongest monthly sales performance in October 2026, with domestic sales and exports both reaching record levels. The detailed segment figures point to a broad-based month, but they should not be mistaken for a model-wise retail ranking or a guarantee of shorter waiting periods.
