BMW-owned British carmaker Mini has confirmed a significant update for its electric SUV lineup. From March 2026, the Mini Countryman Electric range, which includes the Countryman E and Countryman SE All4, will receive multiple technical upgrades aimed at improving efficiency, driving range, and everyday usability.

According to the company, the updated Countryman E will now deliver a claimed WLTP driving range of up to 501 km on a single charge, making it the longest-range electric vehicle in Mini’s global portfolio to date. This update is positioned as a practical improvement rather than a cosmetic refresh, with changes focused on hardware and energy efficiency.

Mini Countryman Electric Increased Range

The biggest contributor to the improved range is a series of mechanical and electrical upgrades. Mini has introduced a silicon carbide (SiC) inverter, which improves energy conversion efficiency by reducing electrical losses during power transfer. Compared to conventional inverters, SiC technology allows more of the stored battery energy to be used for driving rather than being lost as heat.

Alongside this, the Countryman E now uses a revised battery pack with a net usable capacity of 65.2 kWh. The larger usable capacity enables longer driving distances without compromising performance consistency. Mini has also fitted friction-reduced wheel bearings on the front axle, lowering rolling resistance and further contributing to real-world efficiency gains.

Together, these changes allow the Countryman E to cross the 500 km WLTP mark, a figure that places it among the more capable electric SUVs in its size and price bracket.

Focus on Everyday Use and Long Trips

Mini continues to position the Countryman Electric as a practical vehicle rather than a city-only EV. The SUV offers a luggage capacity of up to 1,450 litres, making it suitable for family use, long-distance travel, and carrying sports or outdoor equipment. This emphasis on space and usability reflects Mini’s intent to appeal to buyers looking for a single-car solution that can handle both daily commuting and weekend travel.

The Countryman SE All4, which features an all-wheel-drive setup, also benefits from the update. While its claimed WLTP range stands at 467 km, slightly lower than the Countryman E, the AWD configuration is designed to provide improved traction and stability in varied driving conditions.

Charging Performance Remains Unchanged

Charging capability remains the same as before, with continued support for DC fast charging. Mini claims the battery can be charged from 10 percent to 80 percent in under 30 minutes, helping reduce downtime during long journeys. While there is no increase in charging speed, the combination of fast charging and extended range is expected to reduce overall charging stops for most users.

Design Updates and Interior Technology

On the exterior, the electric Countryman features model-specific styling elements and subtle aerodynamic enhancements. Mini highlights the Favoured Trim, which includes Blazing Blue exterior paint, a contrasting silver roof and mirror caps, and 20-inch Windmill Spoke alloy wheels. These elements give the electric version a distinct identity within the Countryman lineup.

Inside the cabin, the Countryman Electric is equipped with a 24 cm OLED central display that integrates infotainment, vehicle settings, and driver assistance functions. The system supports advanced driver assistance features, including Level 2 autonomous driving functions, as specified by the company. The layout is designed to reduce clutter while keeping key information easily accessible to the driver.

Strengthening Mini’s Electric Line-Up

Mini states that the combination of updated power electronics, a revised battery system, and efficiency-focused components is intended to improve real-world usability without changing the brand’s character. Rather than chasing headline figures alone, the update aims to make the Countryman Electric more dependable for everyday driving and longer journeys.
