Skoda Auto and Volkswagen are preparing for an aggressive product offensive in India, with at least six new and updated models expected to arrive over the next few months. The focus is clearly on affordable, mass-market segments where both brands have already built strong traction.
Popular models such as the Kushaq, Slavia, Taigun and Virtus are set to receive mid-life updates, while an all-new compact SUV will expand Volkswagen’s presence below the four-metre category.
This launch wave is aimed at refreshing existing line-ups with updated styling and new features, while also keeping prices competitive for Indian buyers.
Table of Contents
Skoda Kushaq Facelift
Skoda Kushaq facelift has already been revealed in India, and prices are expected to be announced in the coming months. The updated SUV gets visible exterior revisions, with a redesigned front fascia and rear section giving it a fresher road presence. Skoda has also introduced new alloy wheel designs that add to the updated look.
Inside, the overall dashboard layout remains familiar, but the feature list has been expanded significantly. The facelifted Kushaq is expected to offer additions such as a panoramic sunroof, front parking sensors, a larger digital instrument display and even a massage function for rear seat passengers. These upgrades are aimed at closing the feature gap with newer rivals in the segment.
Skoda Slavia Facelift
Skoda Slavia is also scheduled to receive a mid-life update later this year. Much like the Kushaq facelift, the updated Slavia will bring cosmetic enhancements along with new features to keep the sedan competitive in a shrinking but still important segment.
The Slavia facelift will continue to be based on the MQB A0 IN platform and will retain the familiar engine options. Buyers can expect the same 1.0-litre TSI and 1.5-litre TSI turbo-petrol engines, which have been well received for their balance of performance and efficiency.
Skoda Kylaq Sportline
Skoda Kylaq, which has quickly become one of Skoda’s hot-selling models, is set to get a new Sportline variant. This trim will sit above the Signature variant in the lineup and will feature a sportier visual treatment with extensive use of blacked-out elements.
With the addition of the Sportline trim, the Kylaq range will expand to include Classic, Classic Plus, Signature, Sportline, Prestige, Signature Plus and Prestige Plus variants. The Sportline is expected to command a slight price premium over the Signature variant.
Mechanically, there will be no changes. The Kylaq Sportline will continue to be powered by the 1.0-litre, three-cylinder turbo-petrol engine producing 113hp and 178Nm of torque.
Volkswagen Taigun and Virtus Facelifts
Volkswagen Taigun and Volkswagen Virtus, the Volkswagen counterparts to the Kushaq and Slavia, are also due for facelifts this year. Both models are based on the MQB A0 IN platform and will receive cosmetic updates and feature additions similar to their Skoda siblings.
The updates are expected to include revised front fascias, updated lighting signatures and interior enhancements such as a panoramic sunroof and larger infotainment screens. Volkswagen is also expected to align the design of the updated Taigun and Virtus more closely with its global product portfolio.
On the mechanical front, engine options will remain unchanged with the 1.0-litre and 1.5-litre turbo-petrol units continuing. However, the current 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox is likely to be replaced by a new 8-speed automatic transmission, improving overall drivability.
Volkswagen Tera-Based Compact SUV
Volkswagen is also planning to introduce an all-new compact SUV based on the Tera sold in international markets. This model will take on the Skoda Kylaq directly and will also sit on the MQB A0 IN platform.
While the global Tera measures over four metres in length, the India-spec version is expected to feature shorter overhangs to bring it under the four-metre mark. This will allow it to qualify for small-car tax benefits in India, helping Volkswagen price it competitively.
The upcoming compact SUV is expected to use the same 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine, paired with both manual and automatic transmission options, making it suitable for urban buyers looking for an affordable yet premium-feeling SUV.
What This Means for Buyers
With these six launches, Skoda and Volkswagen are clearly reinforcing their commitment to the Indian market. Updated designs, improved feature lists and familiar, proven powertrains should make these upcoming models attractive options for buyers looking for safe, well-engineered cars in competitive price brackets. The coming months are set to be busy for the Volkswagen Group in India, especially in the compact SUV and mid-size sedan segments.
