Honda is preparing to enter India’s electric SUV market with its upcoming Honda ALPHA Electric SUV. The Japanese carmaker has officially announced the name of its first Made-in-India electric SUV, which is based on the 0 Alpha concept showcased at the Japan Mobility Show 2025. The new model will make its global debut in India on December 2, 2026.

Honda ALPHA will be manufactured at the company’s Tapukara plant in Rajasthan, which is also expected to serve as its global production base. With this new electric SUV, Honda aims to expand its presence in India and introduce an electric vehicle developed for both domestic buyers and international markets.

Honda ALPHA Electric SUV Design

The Honda ALPHA is based on the 0 Alpha concept, which was first showcased at the Japan Mobility Show in October 2025. The concept featured a different design from Honda’s existing SUVs, with a wide front section, clean body surfaces and an upright rear profile. The production model is expected to retain several of these design elements.

According to earlier reports and spy shots, the electric SUV could feature squared LED headlamps, a prominent front section, aerodynamic alloy wheels and vertically positioned LED tail lamps. The rear design is expected to get a large windscreen, an upright tailgate and a roof-mounted spoiler. However, Honda has not yet revealed the complete exterior design of the production-spec model.

Interior and Features

The interior of the upcoming Honda ALPHA has also been spotted during testing in India. Earlier spy images showed a large touchscreen infotainment system mounted on the dashboard, along with a separate digital instrument display for the driver. The cabin also appeared to feature a three-spoke steering wheel and a relatively simple dashboard layout.

The test vehicle was also seen with physical buttons on the centre console, which could make it easier to operate some cabin functions while driving. Features such as ventilated seats, automatic climate control and connected car technology are expected, but Honda has not confirmed the final equipment list. More details about the cabin should become available at the December 2 unveiling.

Battery and Driving Range

Honda has not officially announced the battery capacity, electric motor specifications or driving range of the ALPHA. However, earlier reports suggest that the electric SUV could be offered with two LFP battery pack options, with capacities expected to be around 65kWh and 75kWh.

The SUV is also expected to get a single electric motor driving the front wheels. If these reported specifications make it to the production model, buyers could get two battery options depending on their driving requirements. The claimed range, charging time and motor output are still unknown, so these details will need to wait for Honda’s official announcement.

ALPHA Electric SUV Price in India

Honda has not announced the expected price of the ALPHA electric SUV. Its final pricing will depend on the battery options, features and equipment offered with the production model. The company is expected to reveal more information about the vehicle during its global debut on December 2.

According to current industry estimates, the Honda ALPHA could be priced between Rs 20 lakh and Rs 25 lakh (ex-showroom). However, this is only an estimate and should not be treated as the confirmed price. Local manufacturing at Honda’s Tapukara facility could help the company manage production costs and pricing.

Launch Date and Production

The Honda ALPHA will make its global debut in India on December 2, 2026. India will be the first market to introduce this electric SUV, making the unveiling an important step for Honda’s electric vehicle plans. The company has also confirmed that the model will be manufactured in India.

Honda’s Tapukara plant in Rajasthan is expected to handle production of the new electric SUV. The facility will not only supply vehicles for Indian customers but will also support exports to international markets. The SUV is expected to go on sale in 2027, although Honda has not announced its exact market launch date yet.

Honda ALPHA Electric SUV Rivals

Once launched, the Honda ALPHA will enter a market where several electric SUVs are already available or are preparing to arrive. Depending on its final price and specifications, it could compete with models such as the Hyundai Creta Electric, Mahindra BE 6, Maruti Suzuki e Vitara, MG ZS EV and upcoming Tata Sierra EV.

Honda’s pricing and battery options will play an important role in deciding how the new SUV competes with these models. Buyers will also be looking at its driving range, charging time, cabin features and after-sales support before making a decision.
