Renault has started handing over the new Duster Strong Hybrid E-Tech 160 to customers in India, moving the SUV’s petrol-electric powertrain from the launch stage to retail deliveries. The first reported customer handover took place on November 6, 2026, at Renault’s newly opened outlet in Hyderabad’s HITEC City. hybrid Duster was introduced on October 17, so deliveries have begun less than three weeks after its launch.
Development matters because this is Renault’s first strong-hybrid vehicle for the Indian market. It gives buyers an alternative to conventional petrol SUVs and the established strong-hybrid options in the mid-size segment, without requiring an external charging point.

Renault Duster Strong Hybrid deliveries begin in India
Renault India began customer handovers on November 6. The first delivery was conducted at the company’s new HITEC City showroom in Hyderabad. Reports describe the outlet as a 7,000-square-foot facility with display space for eight vehicles, making it Renault’s largest showroom in the city. This confirms the start of retail deliveries, although waiting periods and allocation can differ by dealership, variant and location.
The delivery event also coincides with a wider retail refresh. Renault plans to bring all 73 showrooms across 24 key cities under its newer retail format by July 2027. The company has already upgraded 30 outlets. Its wider Indian network is reported to include around 638 sales and service touchpoints, including more than 200 Workshop on Wheels facilities.

How 160 PS E-Tech hybrid system works
Duster Strong Hybrid combines a 1.8-litre naturally aspirated four-cylinder petrol engine with two electric motors and a 1.4 kWh lithium-ion battery. The system produces a combined 160 PS. The electric traction motor is reported to deliver 208 Nm, while a dedicated multi-mode hybrid transmission manages the contribution from the petrol engine and electric motors. The system can use electric drive, petrol power or a combination of both, depending on speed, load and battery charge.
This is a self-charging hybrid, not a plug-in hybrid. The battery is replenished through regenerative braking and energy generated by the petrol engine, so owners do not need a home wall box or public charging station. Renault says the SUV can run in electric mode for up to 80 per cent of city-driving time under suitable conditions. That is a manufacturer claim, not a promise that every journey will be completed electrically.
Claimed mileage, range and performance
Renault lists an ARAI-certified fuel-efficiency figure of 29 kmpl and a claimed driving range of more than 1,400 km. The company also quotes a 0-100 kmph time of around 9.6 seconds for the hybrid version. These are published or manufacturer-claimed figures; real-world fuel economy and range will depend on traffic, road conditions, driving style, load, weather and fuel quality. Buyers should compare the certified figure with their own daily route rather than expect the same result in every city.
Hybrid’s main appeal is likely to be stop-start urban use, where the electric motor can move the SUV at low speeds and recover energy during deceleration. On faster roads, the petrol engine and electric system work together when required. Since the battery is relatively small and is not externally charged, this setup is designed around efficiency and convenience rather than long-distance electric-only driving.
Features and equipment across the range
Evolution trim includes a 10.1-inch OpenR Link infotainment system and a horizontal LED rear light bar. The Techno adds full LED headlamps, connected-car services and an electric panoramic sunroof. The top-spec Emotion gets a 10.25-inch digital driver display, a powered tailgate and six-way electrically adjustable front seats. Ventilated front seats and premium upholstery are also listed among the higher-variant highlights.
The Duster retains SUV-oriented hardware such as 212 mm of ground clearance and 18-inch wheels, while safety equipment and convenience features vary by trim. Renault’s official model page and brochure should be checked for the exact equipment fitted to each variant, as not every feature is standard across the range.
Where New hybrid Duster fits in market
Duster Strong Hybrid enters a segment where the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, Maruti Suzuki Victoris and Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder already offer strong-hybrid technology. Renault’s combination of a 1.8-litre engine, two electric motors and a multi-mode transmission gives the Duster a different technical approach, but the final buying decision will depend on price, equipment, dealer support and real-world efficiency.
With customer deliveries now underway, buyers can move from comparing specifications to arranging a test drive. The most useful next step is to check the availability of the preferred trim, confirm whether the introductory price applies to the expected delivery date and assess the hybrid system on a familiar city-and-highway route.
